Details about Carbide rotary burrs

What are Carbide burrs?

Carbide burrs, also known as carbide rotary burrs, are made of hardened Tungsten Carbide(WC) and are used on metal, plastic, hard rubber, wood, and even human teeth surfaces for deburring, cutting, shaping, and grinding. You can use it on air tools such as die grinders, pneumatic rotary tools, and engravers.

What exactly are the differences in size and application?

13 type we can see on the market
1. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Cylindrical Shape - A

Cylinder carbide burr is suitable for flatter metal or other material surfaces.

Profile
2. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Cylindrical Shape with End Cutting - B

Cylinder carbide burr with end cut for increased cutting area.

Profile
3. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Cylindrical Shape Ball Nose - C

Cylinder shape ball nose burrs are best for interior contour work, hole/bore deburring, and milling.

Profile
4. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Spherical Shape - D

Ball or Spherical shaped carbide burr can create concave cuts in your material or shape and hollow out a spherical area.

Profile
5. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Ovel Shape - E

Ovel burr can be used in deburring and removal of curved contours like forgings, alloy metal dies, steel patterns, and castings. In addition, ovel carbide burr can easy to create or enlarge holes on the workpiece.

6. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Arch Ball Nose - F

Arch ball nose burrs or carbide tree burrs used to deburr irregular objects or to complete finishing work inside a confined space.

Profile
7. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Arch Point Nose - G

Arch point nose burr, the burr with tree shape end, also can help you cut wood, metal, and rock like butter in a narrow space.

Profile
8. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Flame - H

Carbide rotary flame burr is well suited for metalwork, model engineering, wood carving, jewelry making, chamfering, casting, deburring, sanding, and engraving.

Profile
9. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr 60° Cone - J

Countersink carbide burr is ideal for bevelling, countersinking, and chamfering sharp-angled areas of your work. In addition, Carbide Rotary Burr 60° Cone burrs are very useful when trimming flash edges, burrs, and weld lines on the cast, forged and welded parts.

Profile
10. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr 90° Cone - K

The function of 90° Cone burrs is similar to 60° cone burrs, also can finishing beveled and chamfered surfaces such as counterbored or countersunk holes.

Profile
11. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Conical Ball Nose - L

Conical ball nose burr with a long nose can help you clean some metal and old welds in a tight area.

Profile
12. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Conical Point Nose - M

Conical point nose burr are good for suface finishing in difficult to reach areas or tight and narrow angles.

Profile
13. Solid Carbide Rotary Burr Inverted Cone - N

The Inverted cone burr is easy to make V-cut and rear side chamfers.

How to choose which type you need?

1. Material

The first and most important thing is what material is used in the carbide burr. Carbide is an alloy formed by carbon and tungsten that has good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, extreme hardness, and does not rust easily. We produce the burrs by hardened Tungsten Carbide(WC) and the alloy model is YG8. We can keep the same shrinkage rate and physical when we used it.

2. Sintering Technique

The second is the process we use to treat the blanks, which determine the durability of the product. There are usually two ways to handle the blanks as follows.

Vacuum Sintering Furance

We use a vacuum low pressure sintering furnace imported from Germany to sinter the blanks and then carry out non-destructive ultrasonic flaw detection to ensure the quality of the product.

Pressure Sintering Furnace

This is imported furnace, in the high pressure environment, the interspace caused by glue volatilization will be less, this guarantees high hardness.

3. Brazing Techniques

The third important influencing factor is brazing. Brazing also affects the final performance of the product. What we use is Brazed by Sliver. The brazing temperature is only 820–850 degrees. After brazing, we will take a concentricity test for each piece to guarantee the concentricity and hardness.

4. 3 Types of Cut Shape You Can Choose
Standard cut or Single cut

The carbide rotary burrs serrated shape is fine, and the surface finish is good. It is suitable for processing hardened steel with hardness HRC40-60 degrees, heat resistant alloy, nickel base alloy, cobalt-based alloy, stainless steel, etc.

Double cut

The carbide rotary burrs have a short chip and a high surface finish. It is suitable for processing cast iron, cast steel, steel with hardness less than HRC60, nickel-based alloy, cobalt-based alloy, austenitic stainless steel, titanium alloy, etc.

Aluma cut or Non-ferrous cut

The carbide rotary burrs have a large chip pocket, a very sharp cutting edge, and fast chip removal. It’s suitable for processing aluminum, aluminum alloy, light metal, non-ferrous metal, plastic, hard rubber, wood, and so on.

5. What kind of shape and size is more popular in the market

The most popular and commonly used model on the market is the ABCDEFGH, and the size is 6, 8, 10, 12. Double cut is the most used product in the market.
